Horrendous-Anareta

Horrendous is a band out of the US with a new CD for the fall of 2015. The CD is called Anareta. Their style of Death Metal is sort of 1980's rhythms with the Death Metal of the 90's. So out of the running gate the music is boring. Ok production is great, but that does not make up for a crappy CD. So if I will say that this is boring then I need to back it up. Well, boring is that the rhythms are old. The rhythms have been done more creatively by so many other bands. The rhythms are not complex nor creative. On the song "Ozymandias" they throw in this chorus that really does not belong. Although the solo was nice but that does not make up for a lack of creativity and a reason to listen to this CD and band. The band Horrendous fails to bring me into their world for their CD. For "The Nihilist" how is the song reflective of the the true nihilist? For "Ozymandias" the song is long and with exception of a decently placed solo, there is no reason to go any further in listening to this CD. For "Siderea" it begins with this slow melodic intro that is almost just two guitars just playing some scales with each other. Even the drum beat was unimaginative during the song. In "Polaris" I would have been more impressed if this was the early 90's when death metal was coming onto the scene and changing how we think of metal.
None of the CD is creative enough to catch my attention and say, "Wow, this is something that I have to listen to". Ok so I really hate this part of my job but lets make it clear to these idiots in bands and HR jackass labels because it is obvious that these guys are not business people and this is why most metal heads are poor and they do not understand the key secrets to success in the financial world. Ready for a freaking revelation. If you want to create a magazine or club or record label you need money. You need ways on how to continue to collect money. Now this is hard enough in the metal world, but when you have bands with crappy names like Horrendous then what do you expect. Ok, I get it, Horrendous is like a play on words from the word Horror and the world tremendous, yeah I get.
It can also be explained through the meaning of terrible horror or gruesome shocking events that have horrid experiences. But the flip side of this is the meaning horrible or extreme dislike, terrible, awful. It is this latter that Horrendous takes after. Although they are good musicians as with their song, "Sum of all Failures". But the CD is just boring, and the record label will never make money on bands like this. The question to be asked is why should I take a listen to this CD. Other than one song, "Sum of all Failures", why should I listen to this? Why should I as a consumer purchase this CD for what $10 or more dollars? (and even that is too much). Does it have creative riffs that no one has ever used? - NO. Does it have complex guitar riffs and solos that demonstrate a unique talent that I have not heard? - NO. Does it demonstrate complex drum or use of bass composition?-NO. Are the vocals truly professional and unique, or the lyrics?- NO.
OK, I have spent more time than anyone should on this nonsense, and obviously because this band does not have full reviews on their CD. So you should buy this if you like background music. I wanted to give them a higher grade because of the fact that they can play and are tight but, one song on a CD is even barely worth my rating and definitely I was too generous in the length of my review. I give them 2 out of 5 guitar picks.
