Cretus-Dux Mea Lux

Cretus is a band out from New Orleans. They are a thrash style band and nothing stands out musically. I actually read other reviews just to get a better handle from this band. But really nothing other than a good solid production is what you have to look forward to.

Are they a band with clever riffs and mathematical style of music? Well no. It is just a newer version of glam metal, in the form of thrash, except with pig faces. Hardly would I ever compare these guys with real musicians that are capable of quintuplets or other odd time signatures such as Meshuggah or Opeth, who are both really capable of odd time signatures. Bottom line this band had a well produced CD but boring topics and riffs that are just an uninteresting today as they were in the hey day of thrash metal. Personally, I would rather go back and listen to some Overkill instead of waste my time or money on something that does not tingle my "Spidey Senses" Sorry I meant my Musical Senses. Maybe since these guys are from New Orleans, if they decided to play metal by blowing into glass juggs I might be impressed.

But as it stands I have no choice but to give them a one out of five because production is good. Musically, they can actually play their instruments, but really Cretus, has been getting good reviews because they must know someone in the music circles, otherwise Cretus actually sucks. If you really like Thrash Metal save your money and get a compilation with bands like Vektor, Havok, Violator, Kreator, Slasher, Elm Street. Cretus really sucks in comparison, so please don't waste your money or your time listening to their Crap. Even Heimdall or Falconer is better than Cretus. And Yes I do know that that Heimdall and Falconer are more on the Viking metal side, but just look at the creativity of these bands using thrash drum rhythms, so in conclusion Cretus is a waste of your time. Personally, I can appreciate thrash even if I personally don't like Thrash, Just go ahead and listen to Chronosphere (5 out of 5) and tell me that Cretus is still a good Thrash Band, and when you say yes then I say we should take away your ears and give them to deaf kids and your brain should be eaten by the Living Dead zombies since you have not used your brain, because at least the zombies will use it to ease the pain of death. Ok, if that was not enough then please listen to Bio-Cancer (4 out of 5) - another Thrash Band and then tell me that Cretus deserves higher than a 1 out of 5 guitar picks.
