All Hell-The Red Sect

All Hell is a band out of North Carolina playing Blackened Thrash. Their new CD is called The Red Sect. It begins with a slow intro but then at the "Crossroads" the song kicks up into high gear and the feel of the CD and the band is present. One thing that stands out is the amount of fuzz on their distortion. Don't get me wrong, production is really good. You can equally hear all of the instruments including the bass and double bass amongst the ultra fuzzed distortion boxes. However, the distortion needed to be readjusted to a lower setting. In other words the fuzz needed to be reduced from it's current setting to about 10 to 15% less of it's current setting, and you can hear exactly what I mean when you listen to all of the songs. As a production engineer, hey guys lower the gain, and increase the sustain and compress the sound by like 25%.

Anyway, the songs have that Thrash element to them and the songs are really good. Imagine you are in a club and you just want to get your Thrash on and get into a pit, well All Hell is for you. This is the type of band that you go and see and are impressed from the first hearing. You know that feeling that you go into the club or bar and the band playing sucks and you are not into their music, well All Hell is the exact opposite. This CD is really good. It has nice rhythms and really captures your attention from beat to beat and song to song. The lyrics are somewhat understood and the bass and drums compliment the music. This is the type of band that you want to see before the main band. They are sure to open up the crowd and get the audience pumped. The song "Blood for the Baron" is a perfect example of the type of song that will get the audience pumped, hopping and circling a pit. "Graveyard Dust" is such a cool song that really gets you head banging. Personally I would rather listen to this song than anything from Satyricon.

And actually on this song the distortion is well controlled and the attack on the gate is so perfectly matched The reverb of the vocals is the precise amount that is necessary for the pace of the song. The Red Sect is the type of CD that you might be listening to and actually have someone next to you ask you what you are listening to. "In My Command" really moves you forward and back in emotional states. It gets you excited and then brings you back down. Now the soloing is nothing to complain about because most Black Metal bands do not do solos well if at all because it is not that scripted style of music. However, the rhythms are sort of in your face, and the songs are short so that if you don't like the song, well it really won't matter because in about several seconds the song will be over. The next song will be a good one and you will have probably forgotten about the previous song.

The truth is that if you are into Blackened Thrash Metal then this is a good CD with a lot of music that has this flow from start to finish. If you are in your dark days or just want to have something playing when you are in the car, on the bus or just hanging out with your friends then this is type of music that you want to listen to. Imagine this, you are with some buddies- ok sorry most metal heads have few friends, BUT TRUE FRIENDS! So you are with your friend, and just sitting and drinking something and you are bullshitting about life and the world, and this is going on in the background. This is why you have to have this CD, or rather this is why you have to get this CD. Good Friend, good beer, good topic of discussion, and good music (All Hell). One thing is that you can't hold me responsible for getting this CD and playing it in your car at high volume, because I know that this will cause me, I mean you, to exceed the speed limit with your fist pumping in the air. All Hell, "The Red Sect", 4 out of 5 guitar picks.
