In Defence-Don't Fuck With The Dungeon Master

In Defiance is a band from Minnesota that can be classified as a Thrash band. They are kind of a silly band that just want to play and have fun. Their song titles are not really serious, it is more or less a couple of guys that are pretty good at playing their instruments but they just want to have fun. Therefore, do not expect to listen to anything serious or try to analyze their music for depth and philosophical meaning for the existence to a harmonious life. Their song titles include "Tacos Til Death" whereby in the middle of the song they start singing "Pizza Sucks", and other song titles such as "Guns in School" and the title track "Don''t Fuck with the Dungeon Master". Therefore, if you are already drunk, or an adolescent teen that just wants to drink beer and talk about what you would do if you had a girlfriend while you are in your mother's basement smoking weed, then this is the band for you. Musically I think I still have more respect for Exodus and Overkill, even though both bands are so passé at this era in time. Yet, if you trust my judgment, then I cannot tell anybody that might be actually reading this review for this particular band that I recommend they get a copy of this CD. I think that even as $2 I still would not get this CD because it is just so cliche.

OK so production is professional, they obviously went to a real studio and the mastering levels are exactly where you need them to be for optimal listening and comfort. No one overpowers the other and the CD was not produced by the guitarist. The melodies are fast in the traditional Thrash metal way, but at times it brings me back to the old hardcore days which is still fine to hear once in a while. This CD "Don't Fuck with the Dungeon Master" is like the kind of CD that you would hear as you go to a concert. So imagine that you are going to a concert to see a band that you really like. Now before the show goes on, the sound guy at the venue usually puts on his own crappy music just to get heard, or he puts on an equally crappy band before the main band just to make the real live band seem that much better in contrast. Well that is what "Don't Fuck with the Dungeon Master" is, it is the crappy music that you wish they would shut off at the concert.

Look, the music is nice if you are into old cliche Thrash metal, and you still need your fix. And after about 30 years of the thrash scene being dead, I think that you might need real help if you still have a Thrash habit!

As for musicianship, these guys are great together. They are serious about their playing even though they play non-serious songs. They are talented musicians, and the rhythms, vocals and drums are perfectly matched and complimented together. The solos are actually really nice, but with songs like "Fun with Beer" and "ADHDTV", I can't take In Defence seriously. This is sort of high school metal but on a professional level. If you like Municipal Waste, Gwar, DRI, Toxic Holocaust, then this is already right up you alley, and you might want to consider adding this to your collection. Really, if you want mindless music and mosh pit slam dancing destruction, then you should probably go see these guys and bring like hockey gear, cause I can see that they pit will get crowded and the fists will be pumping as the blood will be spreading, Oh Yeah and the intelligence level of the whole Metal community will have decreased by two for every minute these guys are playing. For those that are having difficulty with this, it is a division problem, and I didn't really expect their fans to get it either. Because they are good musicians I give thema 3 out of 5 guitar picks.
