Ides Of Gemini-Carthage / Strange Fruit

Track 1. Carthage- The album opens up with a clean strumming guitar and what seems to be a clapping thunder or pounding upon a drum. Clean vocals echo and then a second vocalist enters the fray to create an interesting harmonic balance. I'd say that was a pretty good intro. The music sort of dies down only to return with a sick reinforcing distortion. I like the guitar though I do wish it was stronger within the studio mix volume. The drums and vocals seem ok though. There is an intelligent and distinctive melody about the track, that is both inviting as well as beautifully creepy. The vocals simmer away leaving the track alone to just the clean strum and the smacking drum. The lonely vocals return with their company you can't really make out what is being said but they still sound wonderful. You kind of end up expecting more out of this music and it just trickles into a complete utter blackened void.

Track 2. Strange Fruit- Clean and yet delicate guitar riffs peacefully begin this piece. A melodic yet peaceful beginning slowly unwraps through the vocals. The track echo's about with an elegant presence. The music marches on with a lonely tread of delight.

An electric guitar with a frantic tone happens to leap forward in the mix, though just momentarily. The album itself ends upon an echoing tambourine, very little excitement through this one. Some interesting melody here and there, but overall a bit boring. I just really was not moved by this music very much, and given the short selection to choose from this band can be summed up with two tracks which is unfortunate. Beautiful vocals, though and some of the melodies were captivating, not nearly enough distorted guitar was present here. A general mixed bag. Rating 5/10
