The Ugly hail from Sweden and their upcoming album 'Decreation' is the follow up to their 2008 debut Slaves to the Decay. Following some changes in the line up the band have crafted a source of pure blasphemy from the country of such sheer metal nastiness.

Upon hearing the first three tracks the overall blasphemous spirit is undeniable, classic festival songs for the nasty black/thrash pit warriors. Triumphant riffs, generally mid paced and incredibly well produced by Devo(Marduk) at Endarker studios. Effective sample introducing 'Legio Mihi Nomen Est' before the black/thrash assault.
'Crawl' begins with a riff reminding me of 1349 and I have to say the tempo and riffs increase and improve as this album goes on. Vocals and guitars blend well together and the track is purely black metal to my ears rather than thrash influenced, such powerful vocals echoing the Marduk influence.
Track 6 'Slumber of the God' has a similar impact upon me, I prefer this side of the band going for relentless and pure black metal with that classic uplifting feeling through the vitriolic outpouring from the vocals. Title track 'Decreation' offers a variation in the tempo, slower intro and more of the black/thrash throughout and an incredible outro riff. Finally I believe the band have saved the best until last with final track 'Logerna Til Aska'(The Lies to Ashes) with another powerful more progressive black metal attack, longest track on the album with a bass and drum breakdown but most relevantly just outstanding riffs right through with an almighty atmosphere.
Effective black/thrash metal as the band are renowned for even after only one previous album - nastiness, riffs, relentless drumming. These guys would be brutal at any festival - get them booked.
