Interview with Darren Markoff By Melinda Blaze
What ideas do you have hammered down for the upcoming release?
Currently just a few riffs and some parts that we have put together once we start our live shows we will start working on the actual full writing of songs for the next record.
Do you feel the digital age has affected the Metal music scene in a bad or good way?
In some aspects it's good because it gets the music out to people quicker but I'ma old school guy so I like to actually have things that I can collect in Hold.
Tell me about your early days, when you started as a drummer, what made you decide you wanted to be a drummer?
My parents took me to see Whitesnake and their drummer Tommy Aldridge did his drum solo completely blew me away. As we were leaving my mom asked if I wanted to play an instrument and I haven't looked back some 27 yrs later.
Are you self taught?
I took lessons for a few months, but, decided to learn on my own. Every thing I know is from listening to albums and playing air drums. Later on I started watching videos for tips and techniques.
What are of the biggest hurdles about being a drummer that you think people may not realize?
I don't know, we.have to use more energy and we fall apart quicker with shoulder and wrist problems. Plus we usually have the most gear. But I never complain I love being a drummer.
What is in the upcoming horizon for Korotory?
We are currently booking shows currently we have July 12th with Flotsam and Jetsam @ blackthorne 51 in Elmhurst, NY and October 3rd @ cherry St Station, in Connecticut book with some other shows pending,
We are also hard at work on new material for the next record(as of 6/15have 3 brand new tunes filled with intensity and groove.), we are working on a bunch of different merch as well, and basically looking towards the future. We see 2015 as a rebuilding year with the next few years moving forward being our building and growing years. The future is looking amazing \m/
